The meteor occurred at 11:16 pm MDT, 1st October.
It appeared over Arizona, northeast of Phoenix, travelling in southwest to northeast direction. It crossed northwest New Mexico, and ended in Colorado between Cripple Creek and Colorado Springs . The total duration was between 30 - 45 seconds.

That celestial body that flashed across the Arizona sky after 10 p.m. Sunday was likely a fireball, an extremely bright meteor.

Whatever you want to call it, the brief encounter with the unidentified flying object made for an unforgettable minute for witnesses from Tucson to Snowflake.

Giant meteor sails over Saguaro Lake
Residents who saw a ball of fire in the sky late Sunday evening near Saguaro Lake witnessed a giant meteor, officials said.
Phoenix and Scottsdale police and Rural/Metro Fire Department dispatchers received calls from residents reporting a plane going down in "a ball of fire." Another caller reported seeing a meteor.

Witnesses from the Deming area to Albuquerque’s Four Hills reported seeing something big and bright and green streaking through the night sky late Sunday.
Phones began lighting up in the Eyewitness News 4 newsroom shortly after 11:30 Sunday evening with calls from people asking exactly what the object was.
Most people described a bright red streak across the sky followed by an explosion. Whatever the object was, it then appeared to break up into three pieces and produce a shower of green lights.
Officials at the Federal Aviation Administration say they believe the object was coming from outer space and was probably a meteor.
