Telica Volcano Erupts: Nicaragua on High Alert as Ash Rises Above Volcano
The Telica volcano located in northwestern Nicaragua has once again erupted, after it started spewing smoke on Wednesday. According to the AFP, civil defense officials in the region have described dense volcanic ash settling over the six surrounding villages. Read more
Nicaragua's 1,090-meter high Telica volcano has produced a series of explosions that sent a plume gas and dust 500 metres above the crater.
"The volcano has seen explosions and abundant gas and ash emissions since three in the afternoon (21:00 GMT)" - Alejandro Morales seismologist at the Nicaraguan Territorial Studies Institute.

Telica, one of Nicaragua's most active volcanoes, has erupted frequently since the beginning of the Spanish era. The Telica volcano group consists of several interlocking cones and vents with a general NW alignment.
