Reports from Papua New Guinea say thousands of people on an island off the northeast coast have fled to higher ground fearing a tsunami. According to newspaper reports, locals say a nearby volcano erupted and forced the sea to rise dramatically, destroying several houses.. However, PNG's Geophysical Observatory says any seismic activity in the region was too small to be detected. Disaster officials are still trying to make their way to the island. There have been no reports of casualties.
