The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has decided to send the mysterious stone, which was taken from a local farmer by the police yesterday after he claimed that it had fallen from sky with light, for analysis to Central Metrological Laboratory at Kolkata and Physical Research Laboratory at Ahmedabad.
This non-descript village near Khanauri today hit headlines when a meteorite fell in the fields on Wednesday night, leaving many villagers baffled. The police have taken possession of the 8-cm meteorite to hand it over to a three-member team of Geological Survey of India (GSI), led by a director-level officer, which is arriving tomorrow.
Today, villagers have discovered what they claim to be a meteorite found in a field in Hotitur village in Sangrur district of Punjab . The meteorite , or encrusted rock , measures ~ 8cm by 5 cm and weighs ~ 100 grams. The local police quickly took charge of the rock, and it is now in the possession of the local administration. A detailed examination is currently being carried out.
