Day.Az interview with Director of the Azerbaijan-based Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory Eyyub Guliyev.

Our observatory holds regular astrophysical observations. We study physical characteristics of stars, galaxies, comets and other celestial bodies. In addition, the Observatory publishes two magazines in Russian and English.
We also liase closely with the leading observatories of the world, in particular those in the U.S., Turkey, Iran, etc. In recent years we have strengthened material base of the observatory, purchased a large quantity of equipment, built laboratory building, updated telescopes and horns. All work is carried out at the proper level.

The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has initiated the basic reconstruction of an only astrophysical observatory in the country, Nasreddin Tusi Shamakhi observatory.
The presidential press-service informed that according to the presidential decree of September 5, taking into account the meaning of the observatory in strategic space researches and development of Azerbaijani science as a whole, the presidential reserved fund of the state budget 2008 is allocating AZN 5 million to take urgent measures to strengthen the material and technical base of the N.Tusi Shamakhi astrophysical observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and to conduct the repairs.
