The folks at the Montauk Observatory are hoping 2011 is the year they finally get their observatory, only it wont be in Montauk. A new plan has been put forth that calls for a dome-type structure to be built on the grounds of the Ross School in East Hampton at a cost of about $100,000, which still must be raised.

The Montauk Observatory, a non-profit organisation that plans to build a research-grade observatory at the site of Third House in Montauk, will begin its summer series of events this weekend.
The series kicks off with a star party at Theodore Roosevelt County Park on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Astronomer Tom Madigan will lead participants on a tour of the night sky.
