An odd-looking rock found in a dirt paddock on an outback western Queensland property is officially a meteorite.
The 27.6kg object was resting under a gidgee tree near Cunnamulla, 825km west of Brisbane last year, when it was discovered by disability pensioner Tom King.

Row over 'space rock' settled in Cunnamulla court

A court yesterday declared grazier Keith Wilson, who owns the property Rywanda Plainview, the rightful owner of the rock - possibly the second-largest meteorite to be found in the state.

Cunnamulla police have admitted they conducted their own fridge magnet test on a bizarre-looking rock to determine whether it was a meteorite.
Acting Senior-Sergeant Sean Relf said he was doubtful the 25kg rock was a meteorite when it was taken by police to the western Queensland station in October.

This is the meteorite, currently in police hands, at the centre of a bizarre custody battle. It is actually believed to be the state's second-biggest stony meteorite, and now residents of Cunnamulla, about 825km west of Brisbane, are in a bitter dispute over this "peculiar-looking rock" discovered alongside a fence on a grazing property.
