STS-131 Mission Specialists Rick Mastracchio and Clay Anderson completed a seven-hour, 26-minute spacewalk to install a new Ammonia Tank Assembly (ATA) on the International Space Stations Starboard 1 truss at 8:56 a.m. EDT.
Space shuttle Discovery astronauts Richard Mastracchio and Clayton Anderson began a six hour spacewalk from the ISS. The astronauts are replacing an ammonia tank on the outside of the International Space Station. The mission is due to be completed over three spacewalks.
Commander Alan Poindexter docked space shuttle Discovery to the International Space Stations Harmony node at 3:44 a.m. EDT. At the time they connected, the two spacecraft were flying 225 miles over the Caribbean sea near Caracas, Venezuela. Poindexter and his crew completed the rendezvous operation without the failed shuttle Ku-band radar, relying instead on an array of other navigation tools to precisely track the space station.

The space shuttle Discovery has blasted off on its mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The shuttle, on one of the final missions before the programme is shut down at the end of 2010, is hauling equipment and supplies to the station. The astronauts are due to carry out three spacewalks, to make repairs on the station and retrieve an experiment. NASA workers began filling the external fuel tanks for Space Shuttle Discovery late Sunday in preparation for a Monday morning launch, with officials saying plans were proceeding smoothly. Discovery is scheduled for a 6:21 a.m. ET predawn launch Monday. Aside from a chance of fog, weather forecasts appeared to be good for an on-time liftoff from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, officials said. Read more
