Some 150 years after a Volkswagen-sized 10-ton asteroid shattered above the Plainview area, 90 percent of it still awaits to be found. Even so, more than 900 chunks of that stony Chondrite H5 meteorite, amounting to approximately 1,600 pounds, has been recovered since the first four pieces of the terrestrial object were identified in 1917. McCartney Taylor, an Austin-based researcher and collector, has visited the area numerous times hunting samples of the Plainview Meteorite. And he plans to be back in the area in late June. Read more
