Thank you varey much for your response. I will certianly follow up and post any conclusive results . My first impression was that it may be a of solid rocket fuel. It is such an unusual thing.
Thanks for the information. My expert opinion is that it cannot be a meteorite.
After viewing the images and reading your post there are glaring signs (for anyone knowledgeable about meteorites) that show it cannot be a meteorite. Apart from that, i cannot offer any explanation as to what it is. My advice is to perhaps take the stone to your local university geology department.
On or about the morning of Feb 12th 2011 an unusual object fell to the ground in Winston Oregon leaving a 2.5 " deep x 6" in diameter impact crater . The material is not typical of meteorites and is white quartz in color. The ground was moist yet the high temperature of the object left the soil scorched and traces of a molten white substance inside the crater . After observation by witnesses and photos were taken the object was removed for data collection. The object is solid like a rock about 1 3/4" in diameter and wieghs 29.6 grams . For more information go to Facebook and search " John Meterite " to view the material. Any input or insight on this is greatly appreciated, thank you.
