W Lyrae is a Mira like, long term variable star. It is a good one to observer from Edinburgh as it is visible for most of the year at a reasonable height above the horizon.

Easy star to find. Simply move a little more than one degree west and then just less than one half degree north from Kappa Lyrae.

W Lyr was studied from 6471 obervations of the AFOEV database. Approximation of the light curve by a third-order trigonometric polynomial gives a mean period P = 197.150dą0.004d.
