The Kara-Kul impact crater is partly filled by the 25-km diameter Kara-Kul Lake. It is almost 6000 meters above sea-level in the Pamir Mountain Range in Tajikstan, near the Afghan border .
Shock features have been found in surface rocks, verifying an impact identity. The crater is 52 km in diameter and the age is estimated to be less than 25 million years.
